The land of beer and bratwurst

Germany was probably my favorite place to visit on our European tour. We got to stop in an old college town called Heidelberg. The oldest university in Germany is located here -the University of Heidelberg. Then we spent a day in Munich, which I fell in love with. It's a city overwhelmed with history, yet it still had a modern structure to it. Lots of cool historical monuments, traditional churches, and old buildings with a slice of upscale shops, restaurants, and fresh food markets. Definitely my type of city. 

           In Germany, I learned:

• You have to pay to use public toilets. It's usually 50 euro cents to get into the restroom...what a waste of money

• Bratwurst in Germany is amazing

            

• Beer is like water for Germans

• They don't use ketchup on bratwurst like Americans do

• The largest wine vat in the world is in Heidelberg Castle

                 

• People bring their dogs everywhere (clothing stores, restaurants, etc.)

• The country has stunning castles

                                                  

• It is made up of 16 states

• The pretzel originated in Munich by a monk

• Munich was originally a monk town

• There is a local river/canal in Munich with artificial waves where people go to surf 

                                   

• The Hofbrahaus is one of the oldest beer halls in Munich. Hitler held meetings there with his Nazi party. They serve 1 litre glasses of beer

• The BMW headquarters is located in Munich

                                                             

• The first concentration camp to open in Germany was called Dachau, located in Munich
